When appropriate, the latest digital hearing instruments may be utilized to help compensate for a hearing impairment. For individuals who work in high noise areas, we administer Hearing Conservation Programs in accordance to OSHA guidelines.

ENG Test - Electronystagmogram
The ENG test is probably one of the most useful tests to diagnose "dizzy" complaints in which other obvious causes such as ear infection, head injury or certain medication "side effects" are not involved.

The ENG is a series of tests designed to evaluate the inner-ear's vestibular mechanism. This test electronically determines the responses of the balance mechanisms of the vestibular system. These responses are expressed through eye movements which are recorded by electrodes applied to the skin of the face.

This test is performed at our offices. There are also some prior test instructions, please call us for any additional information.

Tinnitus Evaluation and Treatment
Tinnitus is a medical condition characterized by persistent ringing in one or both ears which generally can only be heard by the affected individual. It has also been described as whistling, hissing, buzzing, or pulsing in the ear. These sounds may come and go; however, most sufferers experience symptoms 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The effects range from a slight annoyance to a severe disruption of everyday life. The American Tinnitus Association estimates that over 50 million Americans suffer from tinnitus. In fact, tinnitus is the #1 complaint from United States Veterans and grows at 18% per year. Causes of tinnitus are varied and the condition is typically accompanied by hearing loss. A tinnitus evaluation will suggest possible causes and the most appropriate treatment solution. Although there is no cure for tinnitus, Anderson Audiology professionals are experienced at providing individual solutions on a case by case basis. If you are bothered by noises in your ears, please schedule an appointment to evaluate for possible causes and discuss treatment solutions today.

Comprehensive Diagnostic Testing:

A primary purpose of this test is to provide clearer insight to communication difficulties consequently due to the nature and degree of hearing loss. Only when this is accomplished can the most appropriate treatment option be recommended and the quality of life enhanced through better hearing.

Pediatrics
Hearing loss in children is a silent, hidden handicap. It is hidden simply because children many times can not tell us they are not hearing well. It is a handicap because, if undetected and untreated, hearing loss in children can lead to delayed speech and language development, social and emotional problems, and academic failure. In most cases, it is unnecessary for a child to suffer from these consequences. By detecting hearing loss early as possible, even shortly after birth, effective treatment, which significantly reduces the handicap of hearing loss, can be applied. All too often, however, identification of a child’s hearing loss is delayed because parents are unaware that any child, even a newborn infant, can receive an accurate hearing diagnosis. Anderson Audiology has many years of experience dealing with pediatric hearing loss and treatment. If you are having concerns regarding a child’s hearing, please contact our office for an appointment.

Aural Rehabilitation
Aural rehabilitation is defined as those professional efforts designed to help a person with hearing loss or to assist that patient in restoring a lost state of function, specifically hearing loss. This includes services and procedures for lessening or compensating for a hearing impairment and specifically involves facilitating adequate receptive and expressive communication. Anderson Audiology supports each patient in an individualized aural rehabilitation program. Aural rehabilitation is not something we do to a patient. It is an individual process customized to help hearing-impaired persons actualize their own resources in order to meet their unique life situations and communication goals. The doctors at Anderson Audiology have the experience, education and professional skills to incorporate a personal aural rehabilitation program with every patient experiencing hearing loss. Our goal for each patient is an enhanced quality of life through better hearing.

Cerumen Removal and Management
For many of the audiological tests and procedures it is important to have ear canals free of earwax, technically referred to as cerumen. Excessive cerumen blocking the ear canal can cause hearing loss, iitching, irritation, pain, fullness, vertigo or loss of balance, tinnitus, and coughing. Treatment options for removal of impacted cerumen should be individualized treatment decisions based on amount, location, and quality/consistency of the cerumen as well as the individual's health status based on history and otoscopic exam. Treatment options include:

  • Eardrops/cerumenolytics (pharmacological and nonpharmacological)
  • Ear syringe/irrigation
  • Curettage
  • Suction
  • Combination of above treatment options
